Flow Accelerated Corrosion

Flow accelerated corrosion is a significant problem in aging power plant piping systems. Our research involves accelerated testing using hydrocal pipe components under varying flow conditions, Reynolds numbers  and pipe geometries to develop correlations for the wear rates and the locations of maximum wear. This work is sponsored by Atomic Energy of Canada Limited.

TEG POWER

The TEG POWER Project (Thermoelectric Generator Pizza Oven Waste Energy Recovery) focuses on exhaust gas energy harvesting using thermoelectric generators to generate electricity and thermal energy storage optimization. It is a multi-faceted project involving manufacturing and characterization of TEG assemblies, modeling and optimization and design of the system at the component level, modeling and optimization of the application at the system level and implementation with our client, Pizza Pizza.

Phase Change Thermal Storage

This research focuses on the analysis and optimization of latent heat, phase change thermal storage systems for waste heat recovery and peak demand management applications. We investigate pure phase change processes coupled with electrohydrodynamics to enhance the melting and solidification processes. We are also looking at hybrid sensible and latent designs as well as modeling cascaded phase change energy storage systems.
